EN We the undersigned demand that the new European Commission is at least as gender balanced as the outgoing one and call for the European Parliament not to approve the Commission until this is achieved.

For the Netherlands: current foreign affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven (Christian Democrat). Neelie Kroes has an excellent reputation in the Netherlands, but rumours have it that the CDs will want to nominate one of their own.

Fianna Fail are the government in Ireland at the moment… and we need to put down names that could be potentially nominated.

Irish candidate is a woman!!! Geoghegan-Quinn nominated for EU Commissioner. First campaign day and we’ve almost doubled the woman candidates!

@Jon How many signatures do we have so far??
!! It’s an old and bad excuse which has been demonstrated in Norway where by law 40% of big company boards need to be women.
@Luis Do you really think we get the most competent man with the current system??? Don’t make me

While I am listening the sirens of the police motorbikes escorting our fantastic bunch of EU leaders coming for dinner to Brussels, I would like to share with you that today is the International Men’s Day http://www.internationalmensday.com/ and there is no petition out there to stand for the rigths of men
It would be a paradox if a woman is chosen today for any of the 3 EU posts on the menu but this is very unlikely in any case.
Don’t get me wrong, I want to see more female faces in top positions at the EU institutions and also in the private sector but. I am just not very keen on this sort of petition. We are to make a change, we should put forward a proposal for a EU regulation which make compulsory an equal number of men and women in all electoral and top-official lists. This exists in Spain already and it seems to be working well in practice with a few exceptions: if there are no women who want to run for the post, then what?
